With cycling season now in full swing both domestically and internationality, Cùchulainn Cycling Club are delighted to host the 2016 Louth Road Race Championships to be held on Thursday 19th May at the Sportsmans on the Old Newry Road.
In our 8th year hosting, local clubs have battled for bragging rights with riders working in teams to deliver the trophy to their own home club.
Over the last number of years, Cùchulainn Cycling Club have dominated the podium with the exception of last year when Gary Gorman (Stamullen CC) took the title. Competition this year is likely to be fiercer than ever, with over 185 riders having signed up to the extremely successful Bike Station Road League this year.
This year, the route takes is from the Sportsmans (Old Newry Road), down to Majors Hollow roundabout, and onwards towards Bellurgan turning just after Fitzpatrick’s Bar & Restaurant. From here the route continues on a steady drag past the Lumpers Bar, Ravensdale School and turns left at Jordan’s Corner in Ravensdale.
Continuing up Crilly’s Hill and turning left at the reservoir will take the riders back towards Majors Hollow.
The race will consist of 3 laps of this circuit, with the final lap going around Majors Hollow roundabout and back up towards the Sportsmans for a tough finish.
For those familiar with the Bike Station Road League, the circuit is referred to as the Ravensdale Circuit, which has already been completed in Round 6 of this year’s league.
