Week 09 brings us towards aptly named Hilltown in County Down to a circuit that offers no respite at all. Like looking for shade in the Sahara, there is nowhere to hide on this circuit…
Sign on in Hilltown village with race start only 500yards away at the INH Hall in sight of the first climb of the night… An exposed climb up Reed Hall to start is sure to split the field early, but any time lost could be potentially be made up on the extremely fast descent towards Rostrevor. Anyone who has done this on a training run knows the surface is smooth with good visibility on the downhill stretch.
Before reaching Rostrevor we make a sharp left turn and begin the long drag up Newtown Road/Sandbank Road before turning left on Kilkeel Road and heading back to Hilltown. This road is normally quiet with traffic, but the surface near the Kilkeel Road is suspect.
Mick Sheridan (+353 87 2226086) is your lead marshal (Group 3) this week, and if you’re on duty, you should have received a text already. If you haven’t already done so, please make contact with Mick to confirm your attendance. With this being a new circuit, we need as many marshals as possible…
Sign on (and roll out) in Hilltown Square – Location Here. Opens at 18:15 and closes at 18:45 sharp. Marshal, please try to arrive earlier than the riders to be allocated marshal locations.
Riders: Armbands and Chips all round please….
Safe riding, and see you all Thursday
